In the history of storytelling, few characters captivate us more than the hero... From ancient legends to modern movies, the hero archetype has stood the test of time, embodying a quality all aspire to possess.

A journey with us isn't just about becoming the action hero they admired on screen or playing the superhero they dreamed of as children. It is about self discovery, self -mastery, self-discipline and self-awareness.

The Hero is a Timeless Symbol
The hero archetype, deeply embedded in human culture, often represents having the courage to try and not give up, the resilience to take what comes and not be broken by it, and the relentless pursuit of a goal or outcome so great it inspires them not to give up along the way to realising it. Heroes don't get knocked down, or if they do they get back up and try harder. Heroes get tougher when things get tough. It is by having this spirit our inner hero grows and comes to the surface, and stays there until we become so comfortable being this way it becomes who we are and shapes everything we think, say or do. Our inner hero is our mindset, our decisions and the commitment we carry to see them through.

Heroes also inspire us because they are not perfect. It helps us identify with them. They face fears (it doesn't mean they don't have fears), they make sacrifices (it doesn't mean they don't feel things), and they overcome immense challenges (it doesn't mean they weren't tempted to give up). Heroes are characters or people we can identify with, while we try to 'be a bit more like them'.

This is why Hero stories are so motivating. Heroes teach us that our path greatness often lies just beyond the edge of our comfort zone.

So where's my Inner Hero then?
"Find your inner hero" sounds like a motivational quote, but is more than an abstract concept. The path to finding your inner hero is a transformational journey that can shape the rest of your life bringing wonderful things into your path. But this journey is filled with things that are as challenging as they are rewarding, and that is the point. Each is a battle, a game we play against ourself:

1. Self-Discovery and Learning About Who You Really Are: The path to uncovering your inner hero begins with self-discovery. This journey requires you to venture into the unknown and push yourself beyond your comfort zone. When you are in an environment where people set goals, encourage you to try, and support you if you fall, you can relax and explore your true potential. By delving into your strengths, passions, abilities, and values, you gain a deeper understanding of who you are, what truly drives you, and how you want these aspects to shape your life. Self-awareness is the foundation of personal growth, and developing the self-discipline to stay on your path can bring immense pride and strength. The challenge lies in confronting uncomfortable truths about yourself, but the reward is a profound sense of self-understanding and confidence.
   
   
2. Resilience and the strength to not give in too early: Heroes face adversity head-on, learning to rise after every fall. Cultivating a warrior mindset, as Gavin advocates, equips you with the resilience to navigate life’s challenges. Setbacks or moments where we feel weak are not failures, they are opportunities to learn, adapt, grow stronger and become wiser. This journey requires enduring some hardships sometimes, and persevering through difficulties, which can be incredibly challenging. However, the reward is a new level of resilience that strengthens your spirit and prepares you for any future obstacles that life can bring, and if you plan to go somewhere new and hope to achieve great things, you will face some obstacles. 3. A sense of clear purpose and the knowledge of the direction you wish to take: Heroes are driven by a sense of purpose. When you connect with your inner hero, you align with your true purpose, giving your life a natural direction. When you have that it is easy to know what to do, where to go next and to figure our how to do it. A clear purpose is like having a North Star or a Compass - Your Purpose is true north and you can navigate by it. A stronger sense of purpose also fuels our motivation and inspires us to take bold actions, and bold actions move us toward our goals. Finding your purpose can feel like a challenging or impossible task. there are so many options. So many reasons not to take them. So many opportunities to wait and see what happens or to decide on it tomorrow. All feel like they require deep thought and more courage than we think we have. The Hero moves in the direction to achieve their goal. Yet, the reward is a life filled with meaning and clarity, guiding you like a north star through every step in your journey. Decide your purpose, and get busy moving toward it. Either you happen to life or it happens to you. Go get it!
   
   
4. Empowerment and feeling we have the permission to start and to move forward, and not wait for others to tell us or give us permission to begin: Embracing your inner hero empowers you to take control of your destiny. You realise that you are not a passive observer in your life story but the protagonist who can shape the narrative. This empowerment leads to a proactive and positive approach to life. Taking control of your life means confronting fears and making decisive changes, which can be intimidating. The reward, however, is a sense of autonomy and confidence that transforms how you approach every aspect of your life.
   
   
5. Being an inspiration to ourself, and to others: Just as heroes inspire us, your journey can inspire those around you too, and that can also inspire you to grow and go even further. By embodying the qualities of a hero, you never know who you might give hope to, inspire or encourage. Someone might see you and hope you are the one for the role they are casting. Someone might be inspired and want to train with you, meaning you train even harder. You might be the person who inspires others to embark on their own journey. While it may be challenging to consistently live up to these higher standards and ideas we set for ourselves, it does get easier with practice and soon we forget we are trying. The reward is the impact you have on you and others who are around you. It isn't just what you do, it is how you are being as you do it. Inspiring others to find their own inner heroes creates a ripple effect of positive change and people will always remember you for being the one who started that.
