There are many different roles open to people who want to work in the Stunt  Industry. Here's a quick guide to some of the terms you'll hear used and a quick explanation of what each does when they work together as a unit on a film or production.
Stunt work is a vital element of the majority of films and productions, helping to create the exciting and dramatic scenes that audiences crave. While stunt work may seem like a solitary pursuit, it actually requires a highly coordinated team effort, with a range of specialized roles and job titles. In this article, we will explore the different roles and job titles on a stunt crew in film, and what each of these roles does.
  1. Stunt Coordinator
The stunt coordinator is the leader of the stunt crew and is responsible for designing, planning, and executing all stunts and action sequences. They work closely with the director, producers, and other key members of the film crew to ensure that all stunts are safe and visually compelling.

  2. Stunt Performer
The stunt performer is the person who actually performs the stunts on camera. They must have a high level of physical fitness, as well as training and experience in a range of stunt techniques such as fighting, falling, and driving. Stunt performers must also be highly skilled in acting, as they often need to perform their stunts in character.

  3. Stunt Double
A stunt double is a specialized type of stunt performer who is hired to perform stunts that are too dangerous or difficult for the main actor. They must have a similar build and appearance to the actor they are doubling for, and be highly skilled in a range of stunt techniques.

  4. Fight Choreographer
The fight choreographer is responsible for designing and coordinating all the fight scenes in the film. They work closely with the stunt coordinator and the director to ensure that the fights are safe and visually compelling.

  5. Rigging Coordinator
The rigging coordinator is responsible for setting up all the equipment needed for stunts, such as harnesses, wires, and safety gear. They work closely with the stunt coordinator and other members of the stunt crew to ensure that all rigging is safe and secure.

  6. Stunt Rigger
The stunt rigger is responsible for actually operating the rigging equipment during stunts. They must be highly skilled in using harnesses, wires, and other safety equipment to ensure that the stunt performer is safe and secure during the stunt.

  7. Stunt Driver
The stunt driver is a highly skilled driver who is responsible for performing all the driving stunts in the film. This includes everything from high-speed chases to complex car stunts. They must have excellent driving skills, as well as knowledge of how to safely perform stunts using specialized vehicles.

  8. Precision Driver
The precision driver is a highly skilled driver who is responsible for performing precise and controlled driving maneuvers. This may include things like parallel parking, drifting, and other precision driving techniques. Precision drivers must have excellent car control skills and a deep understanding of the physics of driving.

  9. Pyrotechnician
The pyrotechnician is responsible for creating and operating all the explosive and fire-based stunts in the film. They must have extensive knowledge of pyrotechnics and be highly skilled in handling explosives and other hazardous materials.

  10. Stunt Supervisor
The stunt supervisor is responsible for overseeing all the members of the stunt crew and ensuring that all stunts are performed safely and correctly. They work closely with the stunt coordinator and other key members of the film crew to ensure that all stunts are in line with the overall vision of the film.

A film's stunt crew is made up of a range of specialized roles and job titles, each of which plays a critical role in creating the exciting and visually compelling stunts that audiences love. From stunt coordinators to stunt performers, rigging coordinators to pyrotechnicians, each member of the stunt crew brings their own unique skills and expertise to the table, working together to create cinematic magic on the big screen.
